Cheerleading at Southern High School Spartan Nation Cheerleading Interest Meeting on Wednesday, June 6 at 6 p.m. in Southern High School Media Center. Please come out if your child is interested in cheering next year. Please see attached flyer!

Battle of the Books Meeting There will be a brief informational meeting about Battle of the Books on Thursday, May 31st, in the media center. Any 6th or 7th grader who is interested in being part of Battle of the Books for next school year is invited to come. Students need to have transportation for 3:00 pick-up. Students who are not able to stay after school should stop by to see Mrs. O’Sullivan in the media center to get information.

Newly Inducted NJHS Members All NJHS members who were recently inducted are reminded to bring back their Service Contract to Coach Whitt by June 1.

CALLING ALL OVERDUE BOOKS! It is time for students to return their overdue books to the library. Please ask your child if he or she has a book owed to the library. Feel free to call the Media Center at 919-560-3916 ext. 16221 to see if your child’s library account is clear. This is especially important for eighth graders, as their library fines will follow them to high school. All books are due by June 1, 2012.

Parent Assist Module You may pick up your Parent Assistant Password in the front office, Monday through Friday from 7-3pm. This password will allow you to access your child’s current grades and other information. This is how we will inform parents about EOG scores after testing.

Summer Opportunities Summer Opportunity for rising 8th and 9th graders: Duke Health Careers Exploration Camp – July 9-13. If your student is interested in health careers please submit an application, including 2 teacher recommendations by May 18th. Participate in the Mayor’s Award program! The Mayor’s Award program recognizes young people between the ages 12-18 for volunteering over their summer break. Future Knights Soccer Academy 2012 High School Prep Camp This program is designed to prepare rising 7th, 8th and 9th graders for High School Soccer. The focus of this program is for each player to build upon the fundamentals of the game in a relaxed, free-flowing environment. The curriculum is designed based on age appropriate guidelines and utilizes creative, dynamic activities and small sided games. Every player that participates in the program will get a camp evaluation, player development manual and camper t-shirt. In addition, every player will receive a 2012-2013 Season pass for the Men’s and Women’s Soccer Home Games. If the player is a rising 9th grader that pass may be transferred to a parent, relative or friend. Ages: Boys and Girls in 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Dates: June 4-7 (Monday through Thursday) Time: 3:00pm – 5:00pm (Staff will be available at the field from 2:30pm to 3:30 pm to provide supervision for those students arriving immediately after school.)
